The coast is characterised by its variety of landscapes, from calm, wooded
estuaries to craggy bays with their pink granite rocks weathered into weird
and wonderful shapes. This splendid walking route is a discovery of
Brittany’s northern coast, the Côte du Granit Rose, passing through bustling
fishing ports and stone hamlets. |
A glorious chaos of rocks, the "Granite rose" is at its
most beautiful at sunset. Why not start your visit at Perros-Guirec
by taking the "chemin des douaniers". If you would like to escape from the
crowds of summer tourists, go inland. Many treasures are hidden there:
Ploumanac'h N-D. de la Clarté Chapel), Saint-Duzec (Christianized
Menhir), île-Grande (covered alley)...Granite is an essential part of
the "Armorican" subsoil) The blue rock from l'île-Grande serves as pavement
for the boulevard Haussmann in Paris and covers many a New York Sky scraper. |
